For Every Seed I have Received I Will Sew

Ashley and I met this morning for coffee and ended up in a discussion about Jesus and where He has taken us personally on this journey with Him.  She was going over scripture that had just filled her up with joy in understanding more of who God says He is.  One of the passages she mentioned was Psalms 77.  Before moving on, I asked her if we could go over the passage for a bit.  A couple nights before, I had been reading this part in scripture and the Lord revealed something to me. Psalms 77 reads:

"I cried out to God with my voice-to God with my voice; and He gave ear to me.  In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord; My hand was stretched out in the night without ceasing; My soul refused to be comforted.  I remembered God and was troubled; I complained and my spirit was overwhelmed.  You hold my eyelids open; I am so troubled that I cannot speak.  I have considered days of old, the years of ancient times.  I call to remembrance my song in the night; I meditate within my heart, and my spirit makes diligent search.  Will the Lord cast off forever? And will He be favorable no more? Has His mercy ceased forever? Has His promise failed forevermore? Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has He in anger shut up His tender mercies?

And I said, 'This is my anguish; but I will remember the years of the right hand of the Most High,' I will remember the works of the Lord; Surely I will remember Your wonders of old.  I will also meditate on all Your work.  And talk of your deeds. Your way, O God, is in the sanctuary; who is so great a God as our God? You are the God who does wonders; You have declared Your strength among the people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph.  The waters saw you, O God; The waters saw you, they were afraid; the depths also trembled.  The clouds poured out water; the skies sent out sound; your arrows also flashed about.  The voice of your thunder was in the whirlwind; the lightnings lit up the world; the earth trembled and shook.  You way was in the sea, your path in the great waters, and Your footsteps were not known. You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron."

What the Lord showed me was that as the psalmist was writing, he starts out by pointing out all of his sorrows and his complaints to God in what he feels the Lord is not moving in.  He asks God several questions in why He is allowing this man to endure suffering.  There comes a time in our lives where we have to recognize that God is in complete control, and until we give God that recognition, our minds will continue to rule over our hearts and allow us to think that God is no longer near.  When in fact, God is near and knows exactly how you feel.  The second part of scripture is when the psalmist finally acknowledges his self-pity and begins thanking God for all of His many great works.  He makes a conscience decision to stop asking God where He is, and begins walking in the faith that God is in control no matter if we feel His presence or not.  He praises God and begins to walk in that hope of who God is.  Remember this Psalm in the midst of your trials, and live in the hope that God is who He says He is and that He once again will pull you through if you make that decision to lay it at His feet.  Think of the Israelites who constantly lived their lives going to serve other Gods but because of the fear of the Lord, would come back to Him and He would have mercy on them.  How much easier would it have been had they just decided to choose God even when times got hard.  Be encouraged that in these times, you are being refined. He has a purpose.

You are more precious than gold, which perishes in the fire.
